This post primarily serves as a reminder for future me on how to do this.
First of all, that combination of words might sound confusing. “Rebooting an oven”? But it’s a somewhat sad reality. Our Neff N90 baking oven is effectively a Linux machine. It runs the Linux kernel, QT for the UI and some background services. It also supports remote control via the BSH “HomeConnect” protocol. Sometimes it hangs. You can interact with everything on the “lockscreen”, but turning it on via the button does not work. In most cases, starting it via the app does work. (What a world.)
The button combination
In order to force a reboot of the oven, you have to press and hold the Power button and the Play/Pause button for around two seconds. In most cases, the Play button is not lit up, so you have to guess its position. In my case, I actually get audible feedback when I hit the button (even when it is off).
I hope this rather short post can help someone (even when it’s me) in the future.
